Lattes, Flat Whites, Cappuccinos... What's the difference?
Hi guys! So my tagline is all about my little house, little budget, and lots of coffee… so I figured it was time to do a coffee themed post!
So, have you ever walked into a coffee shop and been overwhelmed by all the choices? This post will hopefully make it a bit easier, I've chosen 4 different kinds of coffee beverages to start off!
All the drinks I talk about include espresso, which, is a method of coffee preparing where a small amount of water is forced through a high concentration of coffee grounds, resulting in an intense brew.
Shots of Espresso can come in "single shots" (1 0z.) or "double shots" (2 oz.) and usually you can request an extra shot into your latte or other coffee order.
Latte:
I LOVE a good latte, on Instagram this week I talked about the "Local Honey Latte" from Fido (a Nashville must-visit!), but I also love mocha lattes, I think these are the ones that taste the sweetest.
A type of coffee made with espresso and hot steamed milk; consistency is milkier than a cappucino; usually has a layer of milky foam on top.
Made with: Double Shot of Espresso + Steamed Milk + Foam On Top
Flat White:
Similar to a latte, but it has more espresso and less milk in the mix. It’s also usually served in a smaller cup than a latte or a cappuccino. Flat Whites have similar consistency to an espresso. I prefer lattes to flat whites, but only because I prefer sweeter coffee drinks :-)
Made with: Double shot of espresso + micro-foamed milk;
Cappuccino:
An Espresso beverage, somewhat similar to a latte, but usually smaller. Has the same amount of espresso as a latte, but with less milk
Made with: 1/3 Espresso + 1/3 Steamed Milk + 1/3 Milk Froth
Fun Fact: The name "cappuccino" comes from the color, which was similar to the color of habits worn by Capuchin monks
Frappuccino:
Given its name by Starbucks, a Frappuccino is a Chilled coffee beverage, usually blended, that can be served either iced or chilled. It's pretty much a frozen cappuccino.
Espresso + Milk + Whipped Creme + Other Sweetener
